I wonder if that Nike commercial has driven interest in those movies.

I'm always amazed I can spell his name right without checking

Are they worthwhile? They do sound good, but I have to be in a very certain mood for art film

Have you watched any of his other movies? I think Kieslowski is like the Steven Spielberg of arthouse cinema; he is sentimental and highly demonstrative. I'd strongly recommend him to someone who has mainly watched popular cinema and wants to branch out.

I haven't, but I do like arthouse cinema in particulars

I don't like the sort of global 'arthouse cinema' monoculture that exists, but I can get a lot of entertainment out of unconventional and challenging movies (Herzog, Koyaanisqaatsi , various documentaries)

What's the best entry point for him?

I share your concerns about the notion of a "arthouse" genre. For Kieslowski, the only stuff by him I've watched are Trois couleurs and Dekalog. Trois couleurs is definitely more accessible; I've watched it with gfs who weren't film buffs and they liked it.

They're unironically 180^180, zero pretension whatsoever, just heartfelt quirky adventures which don't require the typical super patient art film mood

that sounds fantastic

too much arthouse stuff is sterile and unpleasant

heartfelt emotional stuff that still has very high artistic quality and is willing to go places commercial audiences might not dig sounds good

Very CR on all counts - once you start watching the first one (Blue) you'll be genuinely excited to watch the entire thing (White then Red) IMO.

I really think it's up there with Lord of the Rings and Narnia (those 3 Disney ones are great and capture the feeling of the books brilliantly and I went into them skeptically) and of course Mighty Ducks as great trilogy entertainment (along with great soul searching from a sincere religious director)
