red states generally have lower col, so salaries and asset values trend accordingly and thus there is less revenue collected
red states also have industries (which benefit blue states!) that are subsidized (e.g. tax breaks, etc, which in many cases aren't a real subsidy) like energy and agriculture. so, this number is used to make it seems like they 'need' blue states to survive because it's portrayed exclusively as rural poors on welfare. |
