3 levels of mason, all 3 achievable at the lodge. #3 is 'master'. that's it, that's all you need to do to be a mason

then, as you said, appendant orgs like scottish rite, that have 32 levels that are achievable relatively quickly and a 33rd that is bestowed on like 5% or so, give or take; it's possibly a regulated # they can give out.

the appendant levels aren't ranks in the same way the 3 levels at the lodge are, and are completely optional.
