Those are two of the most important skills to become POTUS. A big state Governor is far less visible and has far less of a role as a TV character/media figure that voters have to want to spend a lot of time watching. He was a died in the wool Bush neocon from when he was at Yale until his first run for Governor when he realized that as the underdog in the GOP primary in a state still largely dominated by Jeb’s people his only chance was to go full MAGA and he threw himself into it and made those (admittedly excellent) commercials with his kid that rebranded him. There’s nothing about his bio or anything in his life that suggests he’s a genuinely principled true believer populist. He isn’t. If the winds shifted and corpcons and Jesus freaks came to dominate the GOP again he would drop populism immediately.
