In other words, because rus's victory was impossible to stop, the west should stop intervening and let things develop. Not that you ever approved of rus's actions, but it was pragmatic.
In this case, israel destroyed means of communication and kill/maimed some/many/few/?? Hezbollah participants/militants/friends/family/??. Today, Israel is launching air strikes against Hezbollah areas of s. Lebanon.
Shouldn't we just pragmatically accept that Hezbollah is going to eat shit and stop complaining?

first, to be clear, there is an important distinction between what i think american's role in foreign conflicts should be versus what i think of the conflicts themselves. specifically, i don't think america should be doing any foreign intervention. especially not unilaterally. just because i don't think the us should intervene or fund x, y, or z does not mean i support the opposite.
as far as what i think of the conflicts themselves:
russia v. ukraine: it's a complicated region with a long history involving a mix of cultures and people i'm not familiar enough with to come down hard one way or the other re: which side is righteous. but you're framing this purely in resisting and irresistible military force. the west does not have the will to resist russia, so even if ukraine was righteous, the opportunity to shit or get off the pot was a couple years ago. these endless proxy wars that have been happening since the end of ww2 are destructive and accomplish nothing. the conflict should be resolved one way or the other asap.
israel v. everyone: the morality here is much clearer. israel is in the wrong. there's a reason everyone in the region hates them. as far as military might, the only reason israel is stronger is because of the west. the key difference between russia being stronger than ukraine and israel being stronger than it's neighbors is russia is strong on it's own and israel is only strong with the support of the west. if israel was strong on it's own and we did not have the will to aid their enemies, then i would say the same thing i do with russia.
the key difference is we're aiding israel and ukraine. so trying to boil down my thoughts to "we should just let things develop as they inevitably will" is misplaced when we have the thumb on both scales. |
