The modern military brings ethnic diversity wherever it has substantial personnel. Strangely and partly due to Mormon missionary work, there is a huge Pacific Islander community in Salt Lake City that has been established for decades and they are thriving all over the region. Demographics are just going to change as rural whites sell out of the direct farming side of the agrarian industries. Ethnic minorities who are still willing to really bust their asses in true blue collar jobs and lower working class professions increasingly have cultural and even family footholds in traditionally lily white regions. There is also an increasingly present, semi-permanent and legal Mexican guest worker class subsidizing oil and gas operations all the way up the corridor from texas.
White people really can't complain about this. Nobody really wants to work for a living and our fat wives can't pad around Target stores buying $11 bottles of coconut water without all the cheap third world labor the economy relies on to drive labor costs down. You can't credibly bitch about having to see brown people in traditionally white rural areas unless you want to downgrade your standard of living by banishing them from the affordable areas with jobs. |
