Are F500s Smart To Not Promote Anyone, Or Is It Short Sighted?

Date: June 18th, 2024 11:32 AM Author: sable skinny woman at wife's f500 and surely every f500, it's basically impossible to get a promotion (i.e., higher official job rank & substantially higher pay band) within your same job and the best way to get a promotion is get a new internal job or leave the company.
wife had been working on her meek nowag manager - who loves her - about a promotion for like a year, to no avail. he'd always cite whatever bureaucratic bullshit about how it can't be done.
she started applying for internal jobs for a promotion, and just got a new offer and told her nowag manager. she told her nowag manager she'd prefer to stay if he can match the salary and new job ranking, and he said that he'd probably be able to match the salary but the bureaucratic hurdles would make it impossible for him to give her the better job ranking.
he's really sad to see her go and he's totally fucked with her gone because most people in corp america are morons.
corps obviously figure it's better to make it really difficult to promote people from within and that some ambitious people will leave. is this a smart business decision, or is it retardedly short-sighted? |

Promoting people internally will eventually just lead to everyone getting meaningless "promotions" and title/salary inflation. |
