I'm sure that I had some situations where I got the cold shoulder from a friend in school before 8th grade, but in 8th grade, I made friends with a kid in my Spanish class. We even went to the movies together and did things after shool. I remember we were also in theater class together and we did a one act play together.

Anyway, the next semester came along, and this kid decided that he was going to make new friends. So he sacrificed me to his new friends, he told them where I went after school to go home and a bunch of them, 6-7, basically stopped me on the path and started shoving me around. Then they stole my backpack and threw it in the creek. When I tried to fight back, they beat me up.

The next day, I had nowhere to go at lunchtime. I tried to sit at the same place. They all yelled and sneered and asked me where I got that black eye.

I spent the rest of the year going to the library for the lunch hour. It was Jr. High, so I needed a pass to be in the library, so I literally had to dodge the librarian. But I think she knew and let it slide after like a week.

I also ate lunch in the library because I was a friendless dweeb. It was humiliating when they asked if I had a pass and basically forced me into the cafeteria.

You weren’t allowed to eat in the library. I wasn’t in there eating. I was in there hiding from my peers and maybe fumbling around with the first half of my math homework.

I didn't eat lunch at school because I never liked playing saxophone on a full stomach. Instead, I'd read. I'd always wear headphones, at least until the day when a substitute teacher went INSANE and yelled at me for having headphones on in the cafeteria. I didn't hear her until I realized everyone was staring at me. After that, I was able to convince my guidance counselor to let me skip lunch altogether & go to the library instead.

There’s no way they shipped you to the reform campus just for acting up in class. That’s where they send the delinquents.

I had a huge collection! Probably like 3000 cards! Eventually sold them for like $80 in 1994. If I held on to them, they'd probably be worth like $95 today.

I borrowed a video game from some kid. I think it was Suikoden II or something. He asked me for it back like two or three times and I just legit forgot it. Then one day he showed up unannounced to my house with his parents and his parents told my parents that I had stolen this kids video game. My parents believed them and grounded me.

Yes this person turned into a massive pothead and actually there was another encounter I had several years later that I will save for another time. But basically this kid who I thought I was friends with in 8th grade completely changed his identity and became a pretty shitty person. He’s probably in prison.

When I was in 11th grade I started dating a cute girl a year younger. Same school as us but no one knew her. I met her randomly through school club.

A few months into it she went cold and had enough of me and that was that. Found out later on that my “friends” had told I’d been bragging about sexing her and saying other filthy things about her around school. Was fucked up (and not true). The “captain” of our friend group briefly dated her right after.

After that, I mostly retreated and mostly just played JRPGs until I graduated high school and started social life again in college. Had an old friend in a private school who I hung out with time to time but didn’t engage in my high school anymore.

Was 180 when I was in a real friend group where friends tried to talk their buddies up to girls and get them laid rather than sabotage them behind their back.

Sounds brutal. I was a lone wolf through most of my high school years. Actually my best friend from that time (not really sure if he is a friend or not), I became close to because he didn't go to college right after high school. Instead, he stayed at home and worked at a country club running the cart barn operation. He was very lonely and isolated that year and we became close.

He later went on to college, grad school, did his thing. I don't know. With time it feels we have grown apart.

What I can say about high school itself is that kids would always rat on each other in my high school. There was a lot of backstabbing that went on. I feel for you.

When I got to college I basically had no friends whatsoever. I couldn't relate to people because I was from a different part of the country. The closest thing to friends I made were the people that I lived with or the people that I worked with, many of whom were not even in college. I still remember the day that one of the guys I worked with and liked a lot packed up his Toyota Tacoma and left town for California. I saw him with the loaded truck because he came in to get his last paycheck. He was wearing sunglasses and looked so happy.

I wonder what happened to him and if he ever made it to California.

I did not.

Kid I was good friends with in 4th/5th grade, who has a twin brother, did a 180 on me because we both made the 5th/6th grade bball team as 5th graders and the brother got cut. somehow this was my fault even though I played forward and they both were guards and in general there were several much shittier players who made the team over his bro he should have been pissed at or should have just refused to play in general if his bro wasn't on the team. also it was hard as fuck to make it as a 5th grader so he should have just taken the L and moved on. we rode the bus together and they gave me shit for weeks and eventually I sucked punched the kid who got cut in the face. only time I ever really punched anyone.

both ended up transferring to public school and last I heard they both were druggies.

this was at a catholic school and they were not jewish. they were also poorer than just about everyone at the school and were probably too aware of that fact so that was part of the resentment.

Not betrayal but the first friend I remember making was when I was 4 years old. I still have a vague memory of meeting him. We were best friends through 8th grade. In high school we were in different academic classes and he started hanging out with different people. We drifted apart. I don't even speak to him anymore, but my kids know his name because when I tell stories about my childhood he is usually involved.
