Hypo: $5M to swim from MFH to New Haven right now.

Once you get in the water and start swimming, you cannot get out again until you reach New Haven. Either you make it or you die trying.
No hanging onto a boat, raft, innertube, etc. No walking or resting with your feet on the ground. You can bring a small float with food and drinks, but you have to tow it or push it, and you can't hang onto it or use it for floatation. |

your swim would be the second-longest neutral-current open water swim in history.
so I'm out, but good luck to the mastermen. would need to be a lot more than $5M to swim it during shark/hurricane season. |

This hypo is basically suicide for anyone who isn't a world class marathon swimmer. It might even be suicide for them. If the currents sweep you out into the open ocean, you're not going to survive this hypo no matter how good of a swimmer you are. |

I sink like a rock in a pool, and still sink with a deep breath in salt water. In short, despite being in exceptional physical shape, I'm a terrible candidate for this.
If I was allowed to drop muscle and gain a bunch of fat first, then I could surely do it.
Basically like 3-4 channel crossings. |

I'm sure dropping 20 lbs of muscle and gaining 60 lbs of fat (ie. making me like the normal American male my age) would probably do it. But I would not willing to get out of shape for $5MM.
So wouldn't happen.
But, if I had to -- probably like 6 months of eating / exercising like a Black woman for the body comp changes I'd want. |
