The only way Trump can win is by depressing turnout among those who dislike him but also don’t like Dems and are possible non-voters and maxing out third party vote. See eg 2016. 2) Trumpmos underestimate how terrible Hillary was as a candidate. Kamala is not good at being a candidate, though she has improved a lot in five years, but there’s a reason she’s avoiding being interviewed. Still Hillary was awful because she would seek out interviews and such and drive more people away. Plus she was an ideal target for Trump’s schtick and to activate soft Trump support.
It’s a coin flip right now, and odds are it will be a coin flip on Election Day, just as five of the last seven potus elections have been. Ie Kamala has likely peaked and could regress some after this, though the most likely path is that these are the contours of the race. But her rise the last three weeks is real and shows that she can win, mainly because Trump is a terrible candidate. Trump needs her to make a big mistake/have a big setback or else the trendlines suggest she is in as good a position as the Dems could’ve hoped for before the switch from Biden and she’s much more likely to win than Biden ever could have been. |
