perhaps if half the poasts werent you breaking the one rule that wouldnt have neen necessary.

taking the high road = not retaliating, or even engaging, with you. i wouldnt have the same restraint in mpas shoes. but i suppose it helps that your rule breaking just exposed him as a prestigious normal looking guy so its really nbd whereas outing you is rather cruel as you're a mentally ill neet.

I should

Demons and Demons 2 are both super kooky zombie movies with great soundtracks (first one is metal, second is goth rock and post-punk) about a movie that turns people into angry demons

They're just hilarious great times. Argento wrote both of them and Lamberto Bava made them. The platonic ideal of mid-80s Italo-horror. Loads of gore and fun special effects, lots of MTV attitude, but without the more unpleasant elements that sometimes detract from Italian hack-o-ramas.

ty for the rec

loved the music and 80s vibe/aesthetic- at quite a few points i felt like i was watching a sequel to michael jacksons thriller video. fun shots/camera work in a few scenes. lol'd at the helicopter and escaping thru the roof. was overall kooky and fun.

is the sequel as good?

Two anthologies that are out of print but easy to find second hand are The Dark Descent and Foundations of Fear

It’s a really good overview of horror fiction up thru the mid 1980s or so and combines the people you’d expect like King and Barker with some very classy stuff you wouldn’t necessarily think of as “horror”.

For something a little more visceral seek out a copy of Silver Scream; this was an 80s anthology of movie themed stories and it’s all over the place in terms of tone and content but every single story is a banger.

Yeah, it's weird. And Kirk Hammett is the custodian of all the world's horror history and memorabilia. I worked with a guy whose whole house was dedicated to horror stuff. He was a artsy, crafty kind of guy and made/traded props and replicas of all kind of shit: monsters, costumes, weapons, pretty much anything he wants.

I don't know how I would describe what I like, maybe by what I don't like? No interest in cape shit, horror, anime, and largely don't care about fantasy/sci-fi.

Ironically, one of my favorite movies is The Crow. I guess I like romance.

That was just a joke about the true nature of the crow being a till-death-do-us-part, Romeo and Juliet love story, despite its violent, supernatural comic book origins.

Thoughts on Film Noir/Neo Noir as a genre?

Thoughts on the classics - Le Samouraï, Chinatown, The Big Sleep, The Long Goodbye, LA Confidential

I haven’t seen most of those and should

I love the grifters

I need to watch more classic noir

One recommendation I have is The Big Combo which is a 1827738282 movie

I often feel like we're opposite sides of the same coin. Like two brothers separated at birth and raised in different families. You and your horror and me and detective stories. I have been obsessed with noir and detective stories since birth. Horror I don't hate it but you have to force me to sit down and watch it.

I have not seen it but I would watch it. I prefer 70s noir to 50s overall. You should watch or re-watch Chinatown immediately. It's not just one of the best neo noirs ever but it's one of the best movies ever made in any genre.

that's a really great question. you're getting an A just for asking it in class.

Objectively I think Chinatown is a greater achievement. But I don't watch Chinatown while I'm doing donuts in my work parking lot now do I?

It is a bit of an iceberg film that you have to see a couple times. I recommend doing background research on William Mulholland. It's got a lot of elements of historical drama mixed in. It's a complex tale. Some of the best scenes are just random LA city council meetings. Idk it's flawless somehow.

Also a big fan of MANHUNTER if you haven't seen it. The first film about Hannibal Lecter.

if you want a film with noir and psychological horror elements, lar von trier's first major movie "the element of crime" was interesting. it is known for its oppressive, nightmarish atmosphere which persists through the entire runtime. it was a thematic influence on later films like dark city, too.

You're like the physical embodiment of the opinions shared on college radio stations. You're like if classic pre-woke NPR was a person.

I will check it out. I am a fan of Dogme 95 in general. I liked Breaking the Waves a lot as well as Thomas Vinterberg's Festen. I will watch any dark Scandinavian film.

I just saw Låt Den Rätte Komma In (A Triumph, which MPA would like because it has horror elements!) as well as the Norwegian version of Insomnia (which dunks on the Chris Nolan version imo).

Dark City was awesome if albeit a somewhat flawed film. Great atmosphere film but not enough gritty REALISM for my subjective taste (noirs have to REALISTIC imo imo).
