Moscow's population doubled over the past 20 years and the roads and infrastructure are playing catchup, but the money involved is insane with the city budget up there with NYC and the Oblast budget rivaling a medium sized country. Kiev is a tiny 2nd class city by comparison. In terms of schools, and hospitals Moscow has Kiev beat by miles. In terms of traffic and shit like that yeah Moscow is kinda hellish, and will be for some time more as those kinds of things takes decades to resolve even with seemingly unlimited funds. Alcohol consumption can also be a problem. Running into drunks especially at night is common. Most are friendly; they often come off as aggressive and will invade your personal space. This can be scary the first couple of times. Politely walking away normally works. People coming from a country where less alcohol is consumed can find themselves becoming the drunks. |

still, bulgarios do pretty OK today if they can get off the turnip patch. during the soviet era, bulgaria was a big computer manufacturer for some reason. you haven't WTF'd till you've seen cyrillic oregon trail running on a pravetz-82.
bulgaria has deceptively high levels of violent crime. pretty much all mafia killing other mafia. as a white english-speaking dood you'd be fine. as for other shady shit, like other have said, truly shady countries (or "countries") are albania, kosovo, moldova/transnistria, chechnya, etc. also, the really insane places for violence are the baltics (although it's mostly just local doods having too many beers and knife-fighting, but that's still alarming to witness.) |
