Blows my mind how common it is to find people taking major shits in dive bars

It was in 1970, so I was decked out in a suit, which is how you traveled on business then. I went into the bathroom to take a shit, and after I finished, while my pants were still down, I reached up with one foot and kicked the flush lever. Sonofabitch! A geyser of water gushed out of the fucking broken valve and starting soaking me. I fumbled open the door and fell out onto the floor with my pants around my ankles to the amused astonishment of various other toilet denizens. I pulled up my pants, washed up, though it seemed unnecessary, then went off to find an air conditioning vent to sit under and dry out. I was so focused on getting dry (and reading about the latest Arab/Israeli fighting) I missed the fucking flight. Got into Phoenix at 1 a.m. It was still 100 degrees at the airport. I was dry at last.
About a year later that suit met its demise under remarkably similar circumstances. I was in the Public Health Service then, and was giving a tour of a garbage processing facility that was my responsibility. While I was standing around talking to the crowd, about 500 hundred gallons of pulped garbage cascaded down from above and soaked me in smelly shit. I just went to the shower and stood there in my suit. I rolled down the window on the 1967 Plymouth Satellite motor pool car I was driving so I could dry out,once again. I had to throw the suit away. |
