2. Knowing Joe was half-senile in 2020, unlikely to live a full term and certainly incapable of keeping a working brain a full-term, you let some SHITLIBS force a DEI veep pick. That never should have happened. You desperately needed a presidential veep. You fucked that up bigly, paying right now.
3. By spring 2023 you knew what you had, and had PLENTY of time to communicate in no uncertain terms, "Joe, youre not running again." You let him think the choice was his and he made it. Then you swooped in, a year and a half too late, to "remake" his decision.
You could have gilded Joe's legacy by making sure he announced he was a one-termer, and stress-tested the next nominee via primaries. This was also a way to deal with your black woman problem, by allowing Kamala to run but annihilating her in the primaries.
You fucked that up bigly.
3. Even as late as July 2024, you could have had a contested convention and probably President Newsom. Oops.
4. Finally, just on a policy point: Trump has one issue. Immigration. You may have been able to defang him forever simply by being semi-reasonable on the border. Maybe don't exactly throw the gates entirely open. Just do Clinton/Obama shit on the border. Not even that hard. Surely don't hand Trump his signature issue with an historical AVALANCHE of illegals. You really fucked that up.

Some of those states are run by people who want a turn in 2028 and would be happy to have a historically disliked president as a lame duck in the run-up to that.
And you really haven’t explained why the legal countermeasures won’t do enough to deter a sufficiently large steal, other than expressing that you don’t care for Elon. |

It was obvious from her failed primary campaign she could never lead the ticket successfully, but she was too powerful and diverse to pass over.
The clear lesson for Dems is they need a competitive primary. Letting Hillary clear the field in 2016 was disastrous (Biden would have beat her), and now 2024 is even worse. In 2020 Biden was at least forced to prove he could hang around. |

But he was obviously old, and while it was not a forgone conclusion that Biden would be unable to campaign in 2024 while Trump was still going strong, it was certainly foreseeable. More broadly, given Biden's age and condition in 2020 it was readily foreseeable that he might become unable to carry on at any time, however inconvenient, and that his deterioration might be rapid.
It was obvious that his VP needed to be popular and a proven campaigner who could pick up a campaign quickly under any circumstances and either run as a continuation of Biden's administration or a break from it, whatever is needed. It was also obvious that this person needed to be kept in the public eye and their popularity cultivated over Biden's term.
Harris may yet win, but the Democrats made this way closer than it needed to be. |
