I read Roger Zelazny’s Hugo Award-winning sci-fi/fantasy blend novel Lord of Light (1967), https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Light-roger-zelazny/dp/073941688X/ . The tag-line is as follows: In the far future some colonists to another planet set themselves up as avatars of Hindu Gods, possessing significant powers and beaming their brains into new bodies when their old bodies decay, while the other colonists live with low technology in ignorance and worship these fake Gods. The main character, one of the upper-elites, decides to side with the general population against these fake-Hindu Gods.
It’s a good novel, clever and creative at points, although there are parts that are structurally difficult to follow. Some of the battle scenes are written well. The novel reminded me of L.E. Modesitt’s excellent and poetic Hammer of Darkness (1985) which features a similar type of story: https://www.amazon.com/Hammer-Darkness-L-Modesitt-Jr/dp/076531567X
I wondered after finishing Lord of Light whether I wanted to read more sci-fi/fantasy, perhaps other Hugo Award winners around the similar years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Award_for_Best_Novel#Winners_and_nominees ). I expect that the modern winners are all garbage; for example, John Scalzi who has won it multiple times in recent years is a shitlib who sticks his politics into his books: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Scalzi#Personal_life .
With all that said, I don’t think I am going to go down the rabbit hole of Hugo award winners or expand my focus too much into sci-fi or fantasy — I think my time is better spent elsewhere, although I’m still interested in fiction in general.

A comic book artist, jack Kirby, did mockups for a film adaptation of "lord of light" that never got made.
when the CIA sent operatives into Iran to exfiltrate us diplomats who were in hiding after the revolution, they posed as location scouts for the film and used Kirby's mockups to bolster their cover story.
ben Affleck's argo dramatizes the CIA mission. The film is excellent but not as good a film as lord of light is a sci fi novel.
