Furthermore although everyone jizzes over the battle of Mylae, that was after Rome had sustained a land war in Sicily without naval supremacy. Imagine being a roman dood in year three of this and having no expectation that Rome will achieve naval supremacy. By the time people start seeing effects and finally realize this isn't like the other discretionary wars American and Western public has become accustomed to over past half century, and finally start to panic and demand backtracking and change of course by political leadership, at that time the bad effects are just starting and will get exponentially worse with no solution for foreseeable future. |
