Hypo: One year to train to throw a 72 mph strike. Do you accept?

Date: January 17th, 2025 1:31 PM Author: Nazca Redlines A year from today, you'll have 5 attempts to throw a strike from an MLB mound. The strike zone will be that of a 6 foot tall batter. Of the 5 attempts, your single fastest pitch in the strike zone will count as your speed for the hypo.
For every 1 mph above 72 mph that your best strike is, you'll get $100k. For every mph below 72 mph your best pitch is, you will take on $100k of non-dischargeable debt.
Additionally, for each number ending in -5 that you hit above/below 72 mph, you'll gain or lose an extra $1 million. E.g., if your best throw is 76 mph, your prize will be (4 * $100k) + ($1 million) = $1.4 million. If your best strike is 65 mph, you will lose (7 * $100k) + ($1 million) = $1.7 million.
If you don't throw any strikes, you'll be deemed to have a best pitch of 0 mph, and you will lose $14.2 million.
All amounts are tax free.

When I was in hs, I could throw from the third baseline to the right field warning track, ~325 feet away.

I’d be tempted but would probably say no. 75 is roughy where I’d feel confident I could do it and likely make some money ie I think I might be able to get 80 but I’m pretty certain I could get to the high 70s. I top out somewhere in the 67-70 range today. Throwing a strike with 5 pitches isn’t the hard part ie you wouldn’t have to lose much velocity if you’re coached properly. The hard part would be not injuring your shoulder in training. I’d spend at least 60k on a pitching coach and a phalanx of sports medicine experts and treatments for the year leading up to pitch day, and the goal would be 75 or higher, then if I get that in one of the first four pitches I throw my arm out of its socket on the remaining ones.
