my cover story was that i was in LA for bargaining all week. the last half of the week was spent at the hard rock in SD, clearly not a city i was supposed to be in.

after i got back, my wife said "hey, uh i was doing laundry and i found [produces card] this room key from the hard rock in san diego. what the fuck were you doing there?"

without missing a beat, i said "oh yeah, i was at todd's apartment and we were doing coke and one of the guys we were doing it with was using that to cut lines. i musta put it in my pocket without thinking."

todd was my partner in biglaw and had an apt in LA and we would, in fact, party there.

i had other close calls like that where i lied through my teeth in a very convincing manner. i might be a sociopath.
