But I currently spend about $1300 per month on my mortgage and close to another $1000 on student loans. Once those are paid off, that gives me an extra $2300 per month to play with and no risk of becoming homeless if things go sideways.
I'm currently a data scientist whose job is 80-90% remote. Once my liabilities are paid off, I have a tentative plan of going 100% remote and switching to part time with the understanding that I'm not expecting to join any meetings (or more than 1 meeting per week). Then I'll do the van life thing where I travel to cool places and spend most of my time hiking but write code for a few hours at night so I don't run out of funds. If all goes well, I'm about 10 years away from this. Wish me luck. |
