Wow now that he’s been loudly wrong in public for the 8000th time maybe this dude will shut the fuck up. Nah just kidding.
It is nice of him to serve as the moderately high verbal IQ lib bro who is completely clueless and divorced from reality, for those who don’t have this in their friends and family circle. I find it kind of surplus and would rather get these opinions from unemployed friends and boomer relatives with early-stage dementia, but people in red states may need this input from time to time.

lol, Yglesias now has this radical manifesto for Dems. basically the points are obvious af to anyone with a brain. for this to be a "manifesto" confirms how fucked up Dems are right now.
====
Economic self-interest for the working class includes both robust economic growth and a robust social safety net.
The government should prioritize maintaining functional public systems and spaces over tolerating anti-social behavior.
Climate change — and pollution more broadly — is a reality to manage, not a hard limit to obey.
We should, in fact, judge people by the content of their character rather than by the color of their skin, rejecting discrimination and racial profiling without embracing views that elevate anyone’s identity groups over their individuality.
Race is a social construct, but biological sex is not. Policy must acknowledge that reality and uphold people’s basic freedom to live as they choose.
Academic and nonprofit work does not occupy a unique position of virtue relative to private business or any other jobs.
Politeness is a virtue, but obsessive language policing alienates most people and degrades the quality of thinking.
Public services and institutions like schools deserve adequate funding, and they must prioritize the interests of their users, not their workforce or abstract ideological projects.
All people have equal moral worth, but democratic self-government requires the American government to prioritize the interests of American citizens.

So…don’t let bums shit on crowded subway trains?
Democrats need a MANIFESTO to tell them this?

False! Totally forgotten in this election: COVID, Summer of Floyd, Jan 6, Dobbs v Jackson. People turn the page quick. American politics is what have you done for me lately. Trump ran on securing the border, low taxes, law and order, police, roads, and firefighters. Basic shit that needs to be done. No more inflation.
In 4 years everyone will have forgotten everything he did and there will be some new thing. I hate when politicians think that the next election is about the last one. GOP got gaped in 2022 running on the REVENGE TOUR platform. Shut up, fix people's problems, get the economy back on track, secure the border, and move on. Next cycle's issues are next cycle's issues. The past is over, move on everyone.

I don't know how to solve their problems but I would say if there's a #1 problem with libs, it's themselves. It's their whole ideology and worldview. Like the Senator from Connecticut just tweeted, Dems can't be the party of the working class when they are the party of 6 fig earners. They have nowhere to go. Sure, they can try to moderate and probably should. But I can't see them appealing to regular people for a long time. I would say that while woke is a problem it's not something people care about as much as their other issues. If Dems can grow the economy, secure the border, wind down foreign wars, cut down on regulations, make housing and healthcare more affordable... if they can deliver the things people want, people will vote for them regardless of their bizarre views on social issues. But right now they don't have a path forward to convincing anyone they are going to deliver. And Trump has a unique chance to be a President who really gets things done. They could be hosed for a while until malaise sets in. The electorate is fickle, though, and don't be surprised if people change their minds over something seemingly trivial.

i like 95% of the platform but i wouldn't believe them until they'd really pushed this for at least a decade. right now, i'd react the way i react when Hillary waves the American flag -- it's a lie.

>People want to earn money for themselves and be financially independent of the government, gain control over their own life and make their own decisions regardless of what the government thinks people ought to do, and the more money you have the more freedom you have to choose how to live your life and govern your own family
>B-b-b-b-but what ever will people do without big government and a social safety net?
These two do not compute and why Democrats will lose for the foreseeable future. People are sick and tired of being taxed to "help others" and everyone knows by now that government dependence is a prison, not a way up. Low taxes, grow the economy, people make better decisions than the state. Ez.

Meanwhile Republicans are lining up to send checks to poors in exchange for being alive and buy their consent to much larger checks delivered in an obfuscated manner to their cronies. We need a party of freedom, budget cuts and actually draining the swamp.

I’ll simplify for you: Which party sent first COVID checks and put in place PPP loans and various other bullshit handouts rather than telling everyone to man up and get back to work?

Yup, Republicans certainly are done pandering to their bimodal base and after a long delay will finally enact meaningful budget cuts and shrink the role of government. That’s why they spent so much time talking about healthcare and entitlement reform and so little about immigrants eating cats, locking up their opponents, and huge trade interventions with no grounding in logic or specificity.

-- idk how u do this
The government should prioritize maintaining functional public systems and spaces over tolerating anti-social behavior.
-- arrest more blacks, keep them in jail longer
Climate change — and pollution more broadly — is a reality to manage, not a hard limit to obey.
-- idk how u 'manage' this versus whatever libs are already doing
We should, in fact, judge people by the content of their character rather than by the color of their skin, rejecting discrimination and racial profiling without embracing views that elevate anyone’s identity groups over their individuality.
-- put more conservatives on scotus
Race is a social construct, but biological sex is not. Policy must acknowledge that reality and uphold people’s basic freedom to live as they choose.
-- dont allow hormone therapy for minors, dont allow any sex change surgeries for minors except for legit hermaphrodites. stop subsidizing this stuff for adults. if people are surprised to see you in a certain bathroom, you're in the wrong bathroom.
Academic and nonprofit work does not occupy a unique position of virtue relative to private business or any other jobs.
-- savagely cut funding for this stuff, except stem academia
Politeness is a virtue, but obsessive language policing alienates most people and degrades the quality of thinking.
-- more cons on scotus
Public services and institutions like schools deserve adequate funding, and they must prioritize the interests of their users, not their workforce or abstract ideological projects.
-- savagely cut funding
All people have equal moral worth, but democratic self-government requires the American government to prioritize the interests of American citizens.
-- close the borders

so, Maureen Dowd wrote a column similar to Yglesias' and MSNBC's Mika read the entire column aloud during Morning Joe. then Morning Joe himself, a dolt, blathered on about the insanities of the left.

agreed as to Mika, Joe, and Maureen. and as to the base, the universities, etc.
i do wonder, though, if there aren't a few Dems who are quietly keeping it to themselves as they think "this shit we've been pushing is insane."

They did and they're called Trump voters. A lot of them moved to the right.
Now think of the ones who still voted for Kamala.
Libs are insane. Why they don't do any soul searching? Because there are a lot of them. They still control half of government with a chance to retake Congress in two years and the White House in 4 if Trump is anything but Godlike. There simply are tens of millions of these nutjobs out there. They're not gonna change. Just make minor adjustments and hope it comes together for them next cycle.

The trouble is that even as a longtime Dem voter who would support mass deportation of illegals, huge cuts to government spending, an end to stupid neolib military adventures with no benefit to US interests, an end to federal efforts to nationalize coastal views on topics outside the constitutional scope of our federal government, and not requiring anyone to pretend that tranny stuff makes sense or that none of black people’s problems are self-inflicted, I still can’t vote for the Republican candidates when they are equally nuts and shitty on wars and budgets and only interested in social issues and the constitution for symbolic reasons with no intent to act responsibly or based on any philosophy at all besides gathering money, getting re-elected and paying back their donors 10x.

We'll see how that works out in 2028 when you are reduced to running a prole aspie closeted gay Yale lawyer in eyeliner because he's good at appearing on Fox News and sucking off Republican powerbrokers. Even the hapless and completely in shambles Democratic party may be able to pull together a plausible alternative with 4 years to work on it and pretty much nothing else to do.

There is a 90% chance that I hate both candidates and don't vote in 2028. I would prefer an entirely different game, but sure keep gloating because "your side" won and will fuck you in the ass again just like they have done every other time.
