Also, I assume 401(k) is being used colloquially here and that people are including IRAs too. You can put up to $70K in one of those every year.

Used to put money into an IRA separately, but stopped that a while back. I'm going to inherit 8 figures, so make more sense to stack up liquid assets now I can use to invest in real estate, private credit funds, etc.
