I can personally relate to this. My wife of 20 years decided to cheat on me with a white guy about six years ago. Before this incident I was only slightly bothered by the general imbalance of Chinese girls/white guy. She would generally blame me for everything that went wrong in the relationship. And that's not an exaggeration. She said that that white guy was more romantic and always planned things to do with her. She said they were so compatible in so many ways. She forced me to move out of the house and wanted a divorce. I told her "do what you need to do". After I moved out of the house she continued to insult me to the point that I thought there was no hope . Understand that I am not loser by any stretch of imagination. I'm a dentist and I am financially in the top 95% or higher. I have always treated her with respect and I have never cheated on her. I'm well respected in the community and I'm basically a happy go lucky kind of guy. But after I moved out I decided to date someone we both knew who was 10 years younger than my wife was. Since then my wife (still not divorced yet) ,who I see daily because we have two teenagers, has gone totally hostile on me. She is constantly threatening to take all my money. Her life is totally miserable because she is unable to control me. Her relationship with the white guy is totally up-and-down. They both have serious issues of control. They deserve each other. Honestly, I can now honestly say I have never been happier in my life. Basically what I am saying is that the image they have of each other is not real. Many Asian women probably are very controlling, and conniving once you get to know them.

I have been approached on two occasions by agents of the Chinese government, asking me to help them steal intellectual property from my (American) technology company. On both occasions, the agents specifically mentioned the dating imbalance that hurts Asian men, and have mentioned that by providng American technology, I will help China to become more powerful, and in the process improve the image of Asian men around the world. In addition to appealing to me in this way, these agents of the Chinese government / various Chinese state owned enterprises have offered me monetary compensation for IP theft.

On both occasions, I did not provide them with what they were asking for. I've long ago reacted to the shitty hand I've been dealt in life by pursuing an easy-going, hedonistic lifestyle mostly revolving around partying and weed, so needless to say, some stuck up Chinese government types aren't exactly appealing to me. However, I do think it says a lot that the dating woes of Asian men in America has become so noticeable that the Chinese government and state owned enterprises have deigned to exploit it by appealing to Chinese American men to steal IP from their American employers. I have to imagine there are some out there who have in fact acquiesced to these agents, and honestly, I don't feel any anger or blame towards the Chinese Americans who have chosen to do so. I can certainly understand how a lifetime of being made to feel like a second class citizen with regards to sex and dating, due to nothing more than one's race, can lead someone to identify more closely with another country than with America. And I also believe that this dating imbalance is but one additional example of how this country is still far from being a true post-racial society (of course, a much more extreme example of this can be found on the streets of Ferguson or among the police officers of Staten Island).

I have to imagine this sort of appeal to Chinese American men will continue to occur, so long as an extreme dating imbalance is present. To any US government entities who may be reading this, I really don't know what to tell you. I suppose encouraging more movies / films depicting Asian men in a romantic or sexual light with women of any race would be a first step to reducing the dating woes that have caused some Chinese American men to feel this way. However, even that would take a while before the effects would be felt in society at large. I'm also fully aware that among certain elements of the US government who read this, it will become some sort of justification for throwing us all in internment camps or something of the like. I understand that that is a risk I run by writing honestly about my experiences here. As I said, we're still far from being a true post-racial society. I just hope that I don't continue to exist as some neglected collateral damage in the meantime.

It's not jealousy, and it's not resentment -- it's a profound sense of loss that accompanies any rejection of traditional cultural values and customs. My sister started dating an American. I liked him a lot -- he worked hard at his job, and was friendly and capable. Yet at the same time, he possessed a completely different set of cultural values. He wasn't boastful, but he liked to point out his own accomplishments. He was somewhat presumptuous and made generalizations about Chinese culture that were incomplete or somewhat false. He made an effort to learn Chinese, and was terrible at it. His pronunciation was far, far, far off from understandable, and it seemed like his primary focus was to curry favor with my parents by learning cheesy phrases, like "I love you". He failed to understand that two separate groups of people, Chinese and American, can have a completely different set of beliefs, customs, and traditions, and that both of those two groups of people can be completely right. He was incapable of grasping what "family" meant to Chinese people. He refused to eat any "strange" food with us in Taiwan. He was friendly and nice and always wanted to show my parents how to do things the right way, the American way.

They've been happily married for several years now, and have a child. He will never learn Chinese, grow up with Chinese food and snacks, learn Chinese values, or understand the sacrifices that his grandparents had to make when they moved to America.
