Nigeria does have a ton of oil and much of it isn't shale stuff but it is a colossal investment that the US would have to keep well guarded. Perhaps this is the beginning of increased US investment in that trade avenue

it's probably a good thing as lagos is going to be a major trade hub and hungry for imports in the near future with QoL and PPpC rising but nigerian politics are a very obtuse mess and not really something american planners in the region are prepared to deal with. the northern tribes get aid from russia but it's really only because americans and europeans don't do business with them

the nigerian state is strong on paper but the breakaway northern provinces practically govern themselves and have increasingly come to subsist on raiding (generalizing, but they're more of a cattle focused warrior culture, the southern yorubans are a "settled" grain peoples. the igbe in the south and west are like merchant jews, to the point of even having their own diaspora and genocide mythos) due to feeling "shut out" from western investment in the nation and a lack of cultural representation in the lagos government

some of these countries in africa trying to hold onto their borders for political power's sakes (and it is africans and african leaders clinging to those british and french set borders from a hundred years ago for reasons of avarice and greed, not western powers, regardless of what the anticolonialists say) need to be allowed to redistrict and AGTOW to keep the violence to a minimum and make international enforcement a lot less of a headache. what happened in sudan is promising, at least as an idea, but they (south sudanese state) got penalized and dragged hard for it by arab and russian aligned interests. something like that in nigeria could work as well

the northern nigerians don't really have training or tactics against western militaries. all of the insurgent trainers from the middle east and especially libya that work with them orient their "doctrines" if you could even call it that around raiding and basic bushwar stuff

they'd have trouble against the rhodesians in the 70s, fighting a post-iraq US military force would basically be like something out of an alien invasion movie
