Is that based on the King book? I haven't really been keeping up with your Maine compatriot for a while--I think the last stuff of his that I really liked was Bazaar of Bad Dreams, which was very good, and I started 11/22/63 and liked it but got distracted by something or other
Still love King, he's a huge influence on my writing and reading
I don't have Max but if I get it I will check it out.

Yes, based on the king book. I don't follow King closely honestly, but reasonably enjoy most of his stuff when I come across it.
More atmospheric/creeping dread/dark than truly "scary" in any way, but really a fantastic series. Great acting.
Every couple years I sub to Max at a promo rate for a couple months, binge what I want to watch, then cancel once the promo runs out. This series is 10 episodes and I got through them in two days.

you'd probably enjoy legend of hell house from 1973. mostly a straightforward haunted house tale, but darker and moodier than most. there was also a BBC playhouse version of the sartre play no exit from the 60's called 'In Camera,' which is kind of a psychological horror film, especially if you haven't seen the play before.
also, one thing i notice is that there are a shitload of richard matheson adaptations. most of which i have not seen. i picked one called 'The Stranger Within' which was made into a 1974 TV movie, and it was okay, within the constraints of its format.
and depending on how broadly you define 'horror,' the film 'A New Life' from 2002 might be interesting. it was one of the french new extremity movies from back then, except that it was set in an unnamed eastern european shithole, and the premise is that a foreign visitor gradually goes insane as he meets a sex slave and tries to buy her from her pimps.

I need to see both--definitely Legend of Hell House. I read the book and loved it, although I assume the movie is tamer on the perverse sexuality aspect.

Trilogy of Terror is pretty good.

That sounds good; I like the New French Extremity. Sounds horror-adjacent.

Yes!
It's horrific, even if some of the science behind it is a bit overblown w/r/t nuclear winter.
The hospital sequence is truly harrowing.
For a really bad time, I also recommend The War Game which is a 1965 mockumentary in a similar vein, although it plays it a little less straight and with more angry dark humor
And if you want an INCREDIBLY bad time. . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_the_Wind_Blows_(1986_film)

Never heard of this; will have to take a look, TY!
TBH the description makes me think of The Dark and the Wicked which I really did not care for*, but this looks good.
*I still think it's worth a watch, I just don't like dour, sour horror that thinks it's being cruel when it feels more motivationless--and I get 'motivationless' is the point but the movie should have leaned more into either a) they really don't deserve this and it's really horrible or, more intriguingly, b) they actually DO deserve this, even if they don't, really.

Another one if you haven't seen it. Safe.
Early Todd Haynes psychological horror. Maybe my favorite Julianne Moore performance.

if you've never watched the Leprechaun movies--do it. I would only omit the recent remake/reboot. the older ones are A+ especially enjoyed Leprechaun 'n da Hood and Leprechaun in Space.
edit:
if you want something really out there:

I can't vouch for this but I've heard about it, I don't know that I could stand it but to each there own.

It's just aces in all respects--it's a consistently unnerving picture of a world that's hurtling into bleakness; everything from the macabre news bulletins on the opening credits to the dead armadillo at the beginning to the various bitterness and pettiness with which the protagonists behave towards each other to the fact that it's often quite funny without undercutting the horror
the direction and editing of the scene when the chick winds up in the 'trophy room' is amazing visual storytelling
the soundtrack is just incredible
it's mesmerizing in a way no other horror movie is for me; it always leaves me feeling shaken but it doesn't actually ruin my day

love it; the ending is a little dodgy but it's really good stuff (and so is about 75% of the first sequel)
manages to feel transgressive but not gratuitous which is a strength of barker's that i think puts his graphic and provocative content head and shoulders above many others who followed him.
amazingly i have yet to actually read the source material--for all my professed love of barker it's largely on the strength of having read 5/6ths of the Books of Blood + Damnation Game.
i also prefer the grandeur of the christopher young score to the stuff barker originally commissioned from coil

I agree; it’s a surprisingly straightforward story; basically a film noir set up but with BDSM hell
It has great pacing

Note sure if I'd call it my favorite (I don't know if I can pick a favorite, honestly, I love them all), but the "Choose your fate" option on the DVD version of #3 makes it the FD movie that really sticks out most in my mind. Are you familiar with this? Made the movie into a choose your own adventure:

ya am familiar with that
i do think it's too bad that they all die no matter what more or less but that's the point
i do reject the implication that the cop and girl from #2 died that's in one of the bonuses in #3--they maed it (but not the bbq kid lmfao)

yeah, i mean, it doesn't dramatically change the plot of the movie or anything, but its still really fun. brings me back to childhood and the choose your own adventure books that i absolutely LOVED.
i would be very, very, very happy if anyone ever created a true "choose your own adventure" horror movie with significant alternate plot lines and endings.
also- i <3 the bbq kid

Stopmotion was pretty alright.
Oddity was better. I didn’t at first realize it’s the same dude who made Caveat which was even better imo.
