Any remotely functional democratic system would allow for removing a candidate for office 5 months before an election because he is no longer mentally competent and appears to be in rapid decline. You’d think there’d be 3 immediate ways this could be done.
It’s not like voters would freak out. Half the country is going to vote for the dem regardless of who it is. Theres 5 people dems could immediately substitute and be very competitive with. Theres probably more- any Dem governor you could sub in.
It feels like something you’d read about in a history book where the consensus is “can you believe an advanced democracy didn’t have a mechanism to correct something so correctable? What were they thinking?” |

the debate in an advanced democracy shouldn't be 'can this man stand for an election to serve 4 more years'. it should be 'how do we immediately remove him from office right now, and forget about standing for reelection.' |
