Their militaries have provided support in countless US and UN peacekeeping operations around the world. They've been keeping Ukraine afloat, especially after the US abdicated their support. The EU is one of the largest economic blocs in the world. The EU together with the UK are the largest foreign holders of US debt. It's been a win-win since WW2.
