Date: July 16th, 2023 12:32 AM Author: Magenta Hell Really Tough Guy my firm had a big event this weekend and got sully sullenberger to give the keynote address. it really was a great speech. afterward, he was mingling with several firm bigwigs and i walked up to try to ingratiate myself. i felt a little self-conscious sidling up like that and tried to break the tension with a joke. as soon as i walked up i looked at sully and said “well, i guess everyone’s the hero of their own story, right?” i’m actually a big fan and thought my comment would be self-evidently tongue in cheek. anyway, nobody said anything for like the longest three seconds of my life and sully finally responded with a very sober (and just gracious enough to be deadly) “i suppose that’s often the case, son.” my group head immediately stepped in to remind sully of someone he wanted him to meet and the crowd dispersed. haven’t heard anything from any of them since. what’s my play here?
