It's not just that the holocaust happened a long time ago, or that no one believes the official numbers. It's the very concept of "statehood" that's problematic. That's why almost no one who sympathizes with Gaza is really calling for a Palestinian state. People have simply lost their enchantment with "states" in general.

It's easy to see why too. Nearly everyone in the western world thinks their own government is shit right now. Even if they support the political agenda on some level, they still think theirs governments are doing shitty at the job. Look at how NZ turned on Jacinda Ardern. If you are Dutch or German you know your government sucks. USA is watching FEMA do nothing while the POTUS shits pants. Everyone knows NATO lost Ukraine.

There is simply no one out there who thinks formation of a state should be a priority. It may not even be a desirable goal. Right now Hezbollah is demonstrating a kind of organizational ideology that may become an attractive model if it succeeds in Lebanon. Against this backdrop, Israeli officials clamor for diplomatic recognitiion Israel still does not have.
