Canada sold off all its gold by 2016, completing a sell-off process that had begun decades earlier.
The country once held 32.9 million ounces of gold in 1965, but this amount dropped to 14.8 million ounces by the early 1990s and was entirely depleted by the end of 2016. Since then, Canada’s gold reserves have remained at zero.
If Canada still held its 1965 gold stockpile, its value today would be roughly equivalent to the country’s total international reserves—about US$125.5 billion, ​according to The Globe and Mail.
