2010 her first outing on the big stage after SFDA. With 33.6% of the vote in the Dem primary she defeats 6 other democrats, Torrico, Kelly, Lieu, Nava, Delgadillo, and Schmier. Talk about a race so far split you can't make heads or tails whatsoever of who's who. Willie Brown pulling massive strings, CA Dem party resorting to confusion, overstuffing the race with candidates to get her over the line.
She then goes on to only defeat the Republican Steve Cooley by 74,000 votes, or 0.8% in fucking looney toon California. She managed to lose San Diego and Orange County. Virtually the entire interior of the state was against her and was only bailed out by Angelenos and Bay Area wingnuts by the slimmest of margins. This was truly spectacular how hard this was to fuck up.

2016 CA Senate race Kamala has the softest path imaginable. They don't put up anyone serious against her. In the open primary the Republican in third place Duf Sundheim (no wikipedia page) gets 7% of the vote and fails to qualify for the general election ballot. Kamala receives 38% in the primary. Second place with 18% is a lightweight Democrat.
Kamala in the general faces only Loretta Sanchez, a US House Rep from Orange County who is the de facto conservative choice in the race. 60/40 Kamala in this utterly fake showdown. Any serious Dem in CA could have beaten her with ease.
