For what purpose? 30-06 has so much history but certainly has been eclipsed for performance.

I keep a bunch of 30-06 on hand for use in family hand me downs, but if you’re buying new why wouldn’t you go with 308 or similar?

Man I’d go with 6.5 Creedmoor if starting from scratch, especially if you reload.

I know they say you should but I still think its gay, the new military caliber seems even worse, .308 will do everything you need and you aren't a sniper, I will give allowance for the weirdos trying to shoot at 1000 yards but that isn't really an important thing

I’d really love to do 1k shooting but not where that’s practical now. Sad that when I was, and had time, I didn’t have the money for the gear. Such is life.

Anyway, the bullet drop difference is less than I thought.

.270 kicks like a fucking mule and there are very few reasons to pick 30.06 over .308, I guess I'd take .270 just for being so fast

obviously a ton depends on the gun but I think it is a very, very sharp and direct kick

doesn't this defy logic? all things equal (e.g. 8lbs rifle), wouldn't the standard 30-06 load (165 grain bullet) have more recoil than a 270 with a standard 130 grain bullet?

felt recoil is influenced by speed and the maximum pressure of .270 is higher, it has more powder per grain

larger caliber bullet rounds will recoil more than smaller. e.g. a 7mm-08 150 grain will recoil less than a 308 150 grain in same weight rifle.

not if one of them is going 20% faster, the powder charge is where all of the energy comes from, and I think you're confusing caliber for weight, a larger projectile will do what you say but diameter isn't the deciding factor, weight is

not at all but I promise you that you can find things that recoil harder than a .45 that are much, much smaller diameter calibers
