Also (our entirely white) executive team made a new rule that we had to interview a “diverse” slate of candidates for each open position and consider “diverse” candidates for any promotion. If a diverse candidate wasn’t given an open position or promotion, we had to write an explanation. This would continue until there was fair representation throughout the company. We were in a highly regulated industry and were told that we shouldn’t gatekeep by looking at traditional qualifications which might be subject to bias and privilege.
This was a Fortune 500 company. I left to go to Biglaw but the whole thing was eye opening for me. |
