MSM and elites came out hard for Biden being sharp and cogent, etc. (Joe Scarborough being the most embarrassing version.)
then the debate.
elites immediately said that Biden's mental state was unacceptable.
but now they've pivoted and are taking signals from Obama's "Joe had a 'bad night.'" so Joe is not backing out.
but that's fraud, right? the elite and MSM know full well that Joe's being replaced. they are playing a charade for the public and they know they are, right?
it's a fraud on democracy on a massive scale.
do the MSM and elites know that Joe's not-backing-out is a complete fraud?

There's no 3d or 4D or 5D chess being played.
NYT is coming down hard on Biden withdrawing but that's journalism. They have nothing to lose. They're being honest for once.
Politicians and their minions at MSNBC are backing Biden because they know how politics work and that's it's near impossible to replace Biden at this point with someone who can win the election. Their best hope is for the debate fears to die down and Trump to fuck up over something between now and election day, which has a reasonably decent chance of happening given who Trump is.

There isn't a master plan. They're all in a state of total panic and have no idea what to do.
So far it looks like the "stay in the race" camp is going to win because at the end of the day it all comes down to the thoughts of Biden and the handful of people he will actually listen to, and both Jill and Obama seem to be signaling that he should stay in.
They know Kamala would get thrashed but they also know they can't just skip her for Whitmer or whoever. And even if they could, those people don't have a campaign in place. They don't have donors, they don't have volunteers. They would be stepping into a nightmare scenario that would end their rising political careers unless they pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Why do that when you can just wait four years and run cleanly?
Also, if Biden is too incapable to stand for re-election how the fuck is he capable of serving out the remaining ~15% of his term?

I like that analysis, but I think they expect to replace Joe at some point.

Hard to believe the Biden of 10 years ago would have allowed people like Tyler Cherry be appointed to the WH staff.
A journalist made a bit of a splash about a year ago saying the real power behind the throne was Obama and his key staffers were embedded in the WH staff, like Susan Rice, and they were the ones making most of the decision and Biden just a figurehead. Pointed out Obama still lives in DC and that key WH staffers were making regular visits to the Obama residence. It would explain why the Biden admin is far more left progressive than Biden's political history and background indicates, and Obama, who was always more progressive-left than he let on during his presidency, could push through a more radical agenda via a clueless Biden without hurting his image.
But who knows. It's probably a combination of Obama influence via his staffers, Jill Biden and some of Biden's own decisions in his more lucid moments.

Imagine what Obama is thinking about his role in this.

Supposedly said that you should never under estimate Biden’s ability to fuck up everything. And loathes him.

hilarious quiet part out loud here:
https://www.axios.com/2024/06/29/biden-debate-replace-advisers
"The only way President Biden steps aside, despite his debate debacle, is if the same small group of lifelong loyalists who enabled his run suddenly — and shockingly — decides it's time for him to call it quits.
Why it matters: Dr. Jill Biden; his younger sister, Valerie Biden; and 85-year-old Ted Kaufman, the president's longtime friend and constant adviser — plus a small band of White House advisers — are the only Biden deciders."
it's like joe's not even in the room.
