2016 is when Marvel reaches exit velocity and can launch bullshit like Black Panther and put up a ten figure box office number. Battle of the Bastards was the peak/beginning of the descent of GofT. Force Awakens drops Christmas 2015 so Disney hadn’t ruined Star Wars yet. Netflix first goes global. Beyonce drops lemonade ie the start of her peak. 2016 Olympics are pretty epic with all millennial goats (Phelps, Bolt, Biles) doing career defining shit. NBA finals is an iconic clash of the millennial titans. And while it’s of course the rise of Trump the culture treated him as a joke and a passing fad of sorts for most of 2016, and it’s only after the election that the boomers re-assertion of themselves really happens. Also everything prior up until Trayvon and the start of BLM (ie ITE, OWS) had a very Gen X, half-assed/larping leftism and smug detachment to it. Trayvon is when millennials first really start to shift the discourse and social media starts to take over the center of the culture from cable, but prior to that millennials’ major cultural achievements were limited to viral YouTube clips that barely had 15 seconds of fame and being a committed audience for reality tv.

There was a brief period before 2012 when Millennial culture was fun and vibrant in its own way.

There were of course accusations against Trump and plenty of other dudes before Election Day 2016. MeToo was a Twitter hashtag that went viral in October 2017 when Alyssa Milano explicitly called for its use as a solidarity and visibility strategy after the Weinstein story broke. There was apparently some woman on MySpace who also used it, but that’s stupid.

Why does “millennial” have to mean retarded shit and not just people born in X years? “Boomer” covers both hippies and guys who billed 1200 hrs/yr and made Partner at 29 (though sometimes it was the Same Guy).

Because all generations have their height for cultural output. For boomers it was 1971.

I’d put the start of their peak in the mid-late 70s. Woodstock (and really the entire period in the 60s after the Beatles on Ed Sullivan) was like Gen X’s late 80s ie the template for a lot of cultural power shift was apparent but not yet implemented. 71 is when the culture concedes mid anti-war movement that the boomer youngs should be treated as full citizens. Eg All in the Family was responsive to but broader than just a boomer audience and was made by the Greatest Gen. But by 75 you have boomers themselves completely taking over Hollywood and watergate and the post-watergate era of the culture is driven by them (movies, sitcoms, broadcast news, post-watergate reporting culture etc.) and was the moment when boomers started to fully dominate culture and gain control of institutions to mold the world for the next 50 years. Gen X’s equivalent to 1975-79 is the 94-99 period post-Cobain but prior to the financialization of the economy and 9/11 re-entrenching boomers and postponing the major tech takeover of the economy until millennials came along.
