As much as I feel I understand Consuela's POV on these matters, I admittedly find Cowgod's Gas Station Wage Theory to be extremely useful.
I think a lot of what we are seeing is a gigantic reallocation of wages from do-nothing white collar types to people who actually do some level of work (including working at a gas station.) So some woman / faggot in an office who does multiple Zooms each week to talk about email open rates (or some bullshit) is feeling immense financial pressure (and increasingly trapped) whereas some Blue Collar Bro thinks "awesome, I can afford shit like Zyn and video games" while also wondering when Switch 2 will get some new titles.
The office fag is mad they can't afford a house (because they still conflate home ownership with wealth creation despite how much they claim to hate boomers). The Blue Collar Bro is happy to live in some 2 bedroom duplex rental apartment in an exurb. The former mentally lives in the past. The latter lives in the here and now and is all the better for it. |
