Just watched One Battle After Another - Thought it was a huge letdown

What a miss

The movie is at its best in the beginning when the radicals appear to be taking over some sort of corrupt system. But then...that plot line sort of disappears?
Sean Penn's character is all over the place. It was interesting when he appeared to genuinely love Teyana Taylor, but i really don't know how to reconcile that with him trying to murder his own daughter.
Both Sean Penn and Leo's characters seem to have an IQ of about 90. It's hard for me to find a movie interesting where the plot seems to rely on people playing morons.
I don't really understand why Teyana Taylor named names, or left and never came back. I don't really understand what the government was doing and why the hispanics seemed to sort of be on the military's side.
The trailer / title / budget made me think it would have all these big battle sequences, but the movie is actually just people practicing shooting guns way more than real battles. |
