1. clearly differentiate yourself from deportation defense, asylum requests, and helping-mexicans-out. Theres a ton of that work, but no money, so don't waste your time unless you really want it.
2. focus entirely on O, E, L visas which pay well, and F, J, B, and family petitions which dont pay much, but you can crank through very quickly for $500-1000.
3. think systematically about Os. Who brings 'talent' to the US? Music promoters, concert promoters, film and tv producers, athletic competition organizers. These are your clients. They probably already have an O-visa lawyer. Sell them that youre better, cheaper, etc.
4. Think about Es. How to find treaty nation traders-investors? Trade groups for traders. Franchise sellers for investors. These are your clients.
5. From the first visas, its referrals and word of mouth. Get a toehold in one country, based on who is coming to where you live. Hire a paralegal who lives in that country. Pay per visa app, not a salary. Pay them like $100 per app, they'll be middle class in their home country. Keep building networks in that country. Contact lawyers in that country, esp biz lawyers, and fee split.
There are a few tricks I will not share explicitly, but this should get you started.
Oh, one more thing. There IS someone in your local immigrant community who is NOT a lawyer, but who is the go to person in that community for help with visa apps. She (its a woman) probably advertises herself as a paralegal or something, but she's not that either. She's just a well connected Argentine or Colombian or Paki or something, and she handles all the apps for her local community. Partner with her. She wants the lawyer credentials and you want the leads. |
