central air is never 100% silent. it still makes a sound as cold air is propelled from the vent. this was silent, with no real force behind the air. like the fog from a fog machine, it just filled the room with coldness in silence.

You're confused or just wrong. The only way to get a pretty silent A/C is central because the air pump and condenser can be placed far away from the living space. An in-wall/window system will always have the loud mechanical components right by the vent.

Minisplits are often quieter than central because they don't require ducting. Depending on the system and layout, the noise from air exchanger are apparent through the vents. The noise floor in a room can shoot way up. Everything has experienced talking to someone, the AC shutting off, and they suddenly realize they were speaking loudly to overcome the HVAC sound.

But my current central A/C is generally silent despite living in Florida. The reason is that it is almost always on but on a low setting. Modern central ACs aren't on or off - they have something like 5 power settings. Unless they're on a 4 or 5 you won't hear it.

You're not wrong that central air can be very quiet but you're wrong to say that other guy is wrong because it must be central. Modern minisplit heads can be insanely quiet, and the fact he said "ac in the room" makes me think minisplit, because central air all you see is the thermostat.

Ok, I'll put this semantic argument to rest and say it must be central or ductless and note that the only reason I didn't include ductless is that I consider ductless to be a form of central A/C. In any event, I suspect that DBG has no idea what we're talking about (and would label all of this "prole goy Mr. fixit stuff."

I have one in my house and it's amazing - it just keeps everything cool 24/7 at a constant temp. you don't have to touch the thing. A/Cs cycle so you'll have weird pockets of heat interjected with the frigid air

I wonder if they've conducted any studies to see how much that's saved on infrastructure? Everyone automatically being routed to alternative routes reduces the need to expand major roads. Suddenly every road has a bunch of overflow values.
