Been in great shape all my life, but the perks of youth became apparent at 34 -- I would get tired more easily during workouts and developed cravings for junk I'd normally never eat. Even though my diet was clean, I had to become even more strict about it to fix what was going on -- low-carb is hard to do when you're older, and you become more sensitive to electrolyte imbalances. At 37, I now have to be more conscious of carb consumption/timing and hydration in order to keep up my workout routine of roughly two hours of cardio nearly every day and weights 4-5 times a week.
Also most people, even elite athletes, peak athletically in their early 30s. If someone 40+ tells you they're in the best shape of their life, they were likely lazy fucks in their youth. And they might also be on TRT.
