how is it a nonexistent problem if more people vote due to early voting? Doesn’t that prove that it makes it more convenient?

inconvenience is often a good thing.
it is inconvenient to go to vegas to gamble. it's far more convenient to have draftkings on your phone. but that cost to gambling meant it was harder for people to gamble away their money, so there were fewer of them.
it is inconvenient to go to events in person. but people who actually bother to show up tend to be more invested in the purpose compared to a zoom meeting.
it is inconvenient to go to vote in person. i don't trust the people who are unwilling to endure that inconvenience to also suffer the inconvenience of learning or caring about who the candidates are and what the issues are.

mild early voting, whatever. like sunday-monday-tuesday, okay sure. weeks or months in advance, nah bro. voters should be deciding on candidates using roughly the same set of information or else why have "elections" instead of some sort of rolling, never-ending plebiscite about who the representatives should be? a couple of days doesn't fuck that up much but weeks/months does

“voters should be deciding on candidates using roughly the same set of information”
If someone votes early then they’re not impacted by a late October surprise like the Hunter Biden laptop which seems unfair to Trump

re: “voters should be deciding on candidates using roughly the same set of information”, the lack of ability to October surprise people is not an important consideration for me, lol.
what i'm more concerned about is being able to engage in sense-making after an election. like we generally try to figure out what an election was *about*, what the voters were responding to etc., in order to figure out what sort of reforms politicians were expected to introduce and then judge whether they lived up to their expectations. That's obviously a very hard endeavor in any case, but an extended election season makes it basically impossible. a long enough cycle and the voters are basically participating in different "elections" that happen to be getting counted together. and so that makes the sense-making task and the task of judging politicians enormously more difficult.

1) the vote should be who is the best candidate to americans on the day of the election. a lot can happen in two months. locking in votes this early seems absurd.
2) the should be some cost to voting as it'll mean more serious and informed people will bother to vote. spending 5 minutes to vote in person seems like the absolute lowest conceivable "skin in the game" threshold, and libs are trying to remove even that.

I was struck last time by how much early voting was happening even before the debates, which seemed very wrong to me.
The American approach to voting was based on an informed and educated electorate following the campaigning and then at the very end going to the polls and casting their ballot, all on the same day nationwide. The early voting model isn't based on an informed and educated electorate going to the polls because when you open voting two months early, you're removing the "informed and educated" component from the voting. So much can happen and change in two months. We make fun of October surprises and they can be unfair, but we're also removing that opportunity to change your mind while the campaigning is still going on, as you learn new things about the candidates and their platforms. Most countries that we consider our democratic peers don't allow early voting.
Your second comment is also spot on and echoes a professor I had who once commented that it is wise not to try too hard to go after the votes of the bottom 1/3 of society. I apply this to both parties, FYI.
All the changes and reforms of the last decade has been undermining the concept of treating everyone as independent free-thinking voters making their own minds and shifting to a much more partisan approach to politics where you're just seen as a vote for either the Democrats or Republicans and nothing more. Sadly, voters themselves are adopting this attitude too.

"A Well-Informed Electorate Is a Prerequisite for Democracy" is inscribed onto the library of congress.
these ideas aren't new. since democracy was invented there has been much debate about making sure voters were informed and acting in the interest of the public. it's a fundamental principle that there would need to be some threshold for this. the debate continues today e.g. felons voting. there is a reason the 19th amendment required a constitutional amendment.
the idea of a poll test or tax or requirement of owning land or something is far-fetched. but at the very least i think you should actually have to show the fuck up. and i agree this is universal and non-partisan. the voter ID debate is common sense but i didn't care too much since i don't think that level of voter fraud is that impactful. but the early voting shit shocks my conscious. i mean, kamala was "nominated" without a primary and has barely made public experiences, and they're trying to reduce her already insanely short campaign timeline even further!

The biggest scandal of 2024 should be how the Dems allowed Biden to run and covered up his cognitive declines that was blatantly obvious to anyone, and then swapped him out when it could no longer be covered up. But perhaps the real biggest scandal is the willingness of the Democrats' electorate to accept it. The more honest openly admit that it's about the party and the presidency is now a figurehead with policymaking decisions made by party consensus, or rather, the consensus ordained by a coalition of very senior Dem officials, party hacks, NGO loyalists and media figures, who operate behind the scene and then instruct the rest of the party what to believe in and what to vote for. Kamala Harris as president? So what, she'll just do what the party grandees tell her to do. No one expects her to be truly a separate Executive branch but an extension of the Democrats' legislative caucus. And the Democratic voters are just fine and dandy with it.
Which backs up my last comment about America moving sharply towards a political model when politics is now identity and it doesn't really matter who you're actually voting for. The Democrats and their voters already accept this. The party of the people has morphed into the party of elitism. Their voters will never punish their party or defy their party leadership, which is something that Republican voters regularly do. But it does mean Republicans are far behind the curve of our evolving modern politics, even if they don't help themselves by allowing crazies to get nominated in winnable elections. But that still shows the Republicans operate to political precedents and a political framework that is far more directly engaged with actual voters, even if it is dying out.

Literally no one will just admit that it’s because it creates higher voter turnout which is always bad for Republicans. Instead you guys are coming up with all kinds of disingenuous arguments like you do for voter ID. It would be more respectable to admit that you just want lower voter turnout.

because voters less engaged in politics are less likely to vote unless you made it really easy and HISTORICALLY those voters were overwhelmingly democrat.
In Trump era however, easier voting probably is a wash or even benefits Trumpmos because libs now win super engaged (i.e., college educated) voters by massive margins. You can see this in off year elections and special elections where there is low turnout, Dems have been destroying the GOP over the last few years.

How about a compromise.
Voter ID required to vote 100% of the time.
Generous early voting with long hours starting 2 weeks before Election Day.
Mail in voting only as needed (age 70+, active military, demonstrated physical disability). Mail in voting privileges subject to renewal every 2 years.
