If Switch 2 did its job of actually being a Switch Pro well, that would be nice. But the screen is Ruinous. If it had Games that would be nice, but it doesn’t. Basically we need AAA M-rated Mario/Zelda or westerners like us will never be satisfied. I want Ganon to bleed red as Link performs a fatality on him, just like in OOT (gold cartridge). N64 was Scummy af and enemies died bloody, gruesome deaths. Doom 64 is the best Console Doom of the 90s btw.

cultural dominance, Imo their cultural footprint started big when they were the only game in town but Sega made them seem so Losery. Being a Loser didn’t become socially acceptable until like 2012.

Game quality peaked with N64 then went into hibernation imo. OOT and Mario 64 were just too contemporaneously good. Competition is a big deal in the game industry. It’s what gave us late 4th gen classics like DKC and Super Mario RPG. It’s what caused PS2 to have like 15 classic exclusives in 2001 in order to Eviscerate Dreamcast. Sony barely made money in the PS3 gen bc they spent it trying to make Games in order to compete plus they cut the hardware price early and often.

Don't you realize that the cycle is due to great artists checking out after capitalism makes them extremely rich? Your whole argument is like saying George Lucas peaked as a creative genius in the late 70s and early 80s. Uhhh duh? Artists make their mark with genius works and then check out. Led Zeppelin hasn't had an album since 1980 and probably hasn't had a good one since 1975.

I probably only played one Zelda game ever after that which was Wind Waker. Nothing since.

As for the current State of things, I think you underestimate, again, how important Competition is. Nintendo became Scummy because Sega pushed them that way. Then, after Sega's demise, they hard-overcorrected, sold Rare, and became Losery. Sony came out with like 35% of the good games on PS2 in 2001, in order to Destroy Sega. Microsoft had Games on 360 because they wanted to win. Console Wars have consequences. Extremely dumb kids know this intuitively. Midwits do not. Adult High Losers like us understand it. Not just who wins but how the individual battles are waged. You wouldn't have NiGHTs into Dreams if Sega wasn't on the ropes. Even Sonic Adventure rivaled Mario 64 in its wow factor when you first saw it. Discuss.

I think a big turning point not flame was the Lord of the Rings movies. It was the first time stupid people could appreciate great art without having to read 3 massive tomes to get there. It was the beginning of stoopid. I also think to that end the 360 brought in more casual gamers than ever before. First gen that saw a big rise in female gamers, which obviously Ruined everything.

Graphics are better now but not really all that much. I'll use gears of wars as an example but it still looks good today. So does GameCube rogue squadron.

Basically nothing has changed in 20 years now.
