Back then the show looked gritty and subversive. Today it’s a little overwrought and too in the nose. Still a great show but not a Sopranos or Mad Men. The reality is that the problem with Baltimore is too many black people, full stop. (((The Wire))) serves to muddy the public discourse surrounding this basic truth, which coincidentally is part of the reason why many Jews in particular love it. |
