Yeah, as partner, maybe , what, 1-2 mil? Top, top docs make more than that in clinical work. The true elite go on to biotech and shame JDs earning potential.
Most docs in decent specialties make at least 400-500k + , with total compensation packages of 100-150k on top of that, with 8-12 weeks vacation.
They do this all over the country, in high and low cost of living areas.
So, who comes out ahead again?
Yeah.
Oh, and non-prestigious med schools produce these results as well. Just shows how much more prestigious any MD school is compared with nearly every law school. |

There are way more big law partners than neurological spinal surgeons. The average specialist doc won't make anywhere near what a partner in a large law firm makes.
Lol @you throwing "biotech" in the discussion, whatever that means, I'm assuming you mean some type of VC work or drug or device patents where the doc has an interest. That's not the practice of medicine, that's business. If you want to play that game, why not include Lloyd Blakfein (Harvard law grad and Goldman Sachs CEO), and scores of others lawyers who don't practice but are in banking, private equity, and hedge funds. Far more lawyers than doctors on the upper rungs of Wall Street pulling in 6-9 figures, that's for sure.

3 of my JD friends: 1 is at a hedge fund (non-practcing HLS grad making finance money) and 2 work for v25 firms as associates.
3 of my MD friends: resident in anesthesiology, cardio fellowship, and a pediatrician who is done.
The JDs are making significantly more right now, and if even 1 of the 2 associates make partner, I don't see the MDs ever catching up, ever. There are some very cushy high paying in house gigs in law as well, though they obviously don't pay as well as partnership, but at least compare favorably to what MDs make. For shitty schools, I agree a MD is far better, but for those who went to respectable schools, in many cases a JD can be more valuable. |
