Even if we just limit this to the next 8 years, between them they will get to replace Ginsburg and probably at least two of Scalia/Thomas/Kennedy, fundamentally swinging the ideological makeup of the court far to the left for decades to come. Between all of these probable outcomes and the near certainty that our population will continue to get more and more brown (read: liberal), Republicans looking more and more permafucked on the national stage. |

if your "pitch" to white voters always revolves around tax cuts for people who are already successful, that's going to result in diminishing returns over time. you need more than that. you need to offer something more substantive, like higher wages in the unskilled sector of the blue collar workforce |

and if you give up too much of your party's direction to narrow interest groups, you risk sudden and sharp backlashes when those interest groups implement policies that go wrong. iraq is a good example of that; it was pretty much the main reason the dems did so well in 2006 and 2008 and had that brief 60 seat majority.
and i really don't think you could look at something like iraq as a "good" policy for whites, or worthy of all the political attention it ended up demanding.
but yet, there are still powerful interest groups welcomed by the GOP who would like to repeat the exact same thing in iran.
if the GOP wants to become more of a white-interest party, it has to be smarter than that. |
