How does an American end up at an Australian medical school?

The backup plan for Americans who can't get in anywhere is the Caribbean. These schools place a lot of kids in American residencies. So was he rejected everywhere in the Caribbean as well?
Failing that, I would think Europe would be the next choice. Shut out again?
Whok is definitely lying about his MCAT score and/or GPA, because no one would end up in his position absent being shut out of almost everywhere else. |

Every doctor I worked with/spoke to told me that being a doctor in America was horrible and that california is the worst possible place to be a doctor. I would analyze statistics of placement from the med schools I got into for California residency programs and it was SPS. I was not interested in working 80 hour weeks for peanuts. Some told they didn't know why anyone would want to be a doctor in the US. It was after I visited GWU that are started thinking about. I think if I were 22 and just out of college, doing 4 years in the east coast may have been palatable--but at my age and getting used to a certain lifestyle, I couldn't do it. In my later 20s I really started putting lifestyle and leisure time over $$$$$$, prestige, material concerns...also I never plan to marry so making big $$$$$ quickly and indefinitely isn't an issue.
I researched Australian schools and it was hardcore. The schools only took you if you had a 10/10/10 and the cycle was at a different time so I had to wait it out. At the time the prospect of spending 4 years on the east coast had me so depressed i was considering doing dosimetry or medical physics so long as I could remain in So Cal. But the more I spoke to people, the more research I did, the more sense it made to take a gamble and go out here, and so far it has worked out very well. |

Got in literally 2 weeks before the school year was to start and didn't want to do it. applied again and got into similarly shitty schools, and decided to wait it out. I also at the time was sick and developed hiatal hernia/reflux and Celiac's so I wasn't really fit to be in med school. At the time I started to think more about my career and the Australia idea came up.
