in hindsight they are all embarrassing, vacuous shit, like Vonegut novels, etc.

I actually thought it was really good. And I enjoyed it pretty much the first time I saw it, at age 15 or so. It's probably my second favorite Kubrick film after Strangelove.

The only knock against it IMO is that the soundtrack has aged really badly.

All in all, it's probably my favorite movie of all time. It is far beyond any other film on so many levels: visually, musically, thematically. The acting is incredible; in addition to Malcolm McDowell, the actors are old English pros who really take joy in their roles. The bit players are all memorable: P.R. Deltoid, the prison guard, the prison chaplain.

But you really, really have to watch the whole thing. I assumed the movie was a decadent Boomer glorification of violence when I first saw the first half.

It would be a contender for top 10 movies of all time if it wasn't for the soundtrack IMO.

The soundtrack ranks with Taxi Driver as my favorite.

I just don't like the early synth sound. It's the same reason I think Kraftwerk are shit. I guess early sound technology is going to be rougher around the edges then the later stuff, but I just find the 70s synth sound awful.

the film is fantastic. i take solace in knowing that you guys are the same bunch who pretty much universally agree that travel is a waste of time, and a substantial number of whom seem to think that having any sort of goals (athletic or otherwise) is a turn off in a potential female mate.

they think travel is a waste of time because they are fucking broke and can't travel further than up the stairs from mommy's basement.

I mean just legit LOL at how far this bort has fallen that the proles here are so insensitive to artistic merit that they've taken to trashing universally acclaimed films and literature.

Next time you watch it listen to how the dialogue is spoken in tones that mimic the Beethoven being played in the background, as though the actors are singing their lines.
