I'm kind of a hack but have trouble getting a 56 to 100 yards. 54 I can hit 105 no problem and can control trajectory of shorter shots better. 56 is better though if you're like 60 yards and need to throw it straight in the air.

Open the 54 a degree or close the 56 a degree you mook

Wedges at any degree of loft are made in several different bounces, this is a different discussion.

Just have a high bounce wedge and a low bounce wedge for different turf/sand conditions (e.g. a high bounce 56 or 54 and a low bounce 60)

Above argument is way more driven by what your next lowest loft wedge is.

What happens when you need to hit a shot your full distance that a 58 degree would provide? Now your 54 is less advantageous or you're closing a 60+.

I've played a fair bit in my day, for an average bro I don't really see the point of a 60 degree wedge, the 56 will get you out of the sand and most anything else especially with a little opening of the face for a real flop

you'd almost certainly be better served by a utility club or another wood than by an additional wedge if you aren't a scratch golfer

lob wedge has less bounce, sharper edge, ball comes out higher and softer. it's 180 if you play fast/firm greens.

I see why a pro needs one, but a hack golfer is not playing super fast greens with 5 foot drop offs on either side, you're looking at shots better played with less loft 95% of the time and a sand wedge will do just fine the rest of the time

I prefer the 58. It's pretty much just as good for flops and out of the sand but better for 60-100 yard shots. Plus it allows me to carry a 52 degree wedge instead of carrying a 56 degree and then have a huge gap between my pw and sw.

if your only goal is to get it within 15 feet. it takes a shitload of practice to get good enough feel with longer clubs to get it close and it's so easy to get too aggressive with it and have it shoot over the green. lob wedge pretty much takes missing long out of the equation.

That's what my 58 is for. I hit my 2 iron probably at least a couple times a round. I'm a pretty long hitter so I will sometimes use it off the tee on shorter holes with tight fairways.

I use a 21 degree that goes about as far as a 2 iron. between that and my 4 iron, I don't really have much use for a 3 iron so I skip that and carry the extra wedge.

you seem like a huge faggot. I don't understand why you are so fucking abrasive.

It's a fact that even most Tour pros don't use a 64 wedge, except for the dudes with exceptional short games like Phil. Phil has even said that he lols at amateurs who carry 64s.

The 64 is not going to have nearly enough bounce for even most really good amateurs. Plus, LJL if you can't open your 60 up when you do need the extra loft.

Either you have a top 15-20 short game in the world or you are a faggot carrying a 64. Which one is it?

brother, that's not how handicaps work. A handicap is basically how the player should score on the average course (in terms of difficulty).

College tournaments are going to be much longer, the rough will usually be grown out, and the greens will play much faster than normal conditions.

Credited wedge setup is PW, 52, 56.

If you can't stop your 56 around greens then you need to work on your touch and contact on the ball.

I'd add a 60 only if you're a long hitter and can take an extra wood/hybrid out of your bag.

an extra wedge has more value. in most sets today a pw shouldn't really count as a wedge. better to go with a lower gap (49/50), a 54 or 56, and 60 and just pull the 3-iron. even good players probably miss around 9-10 greens per round, if you don't carry a 60* then you're just making it more difficult for yourself. it's like those kids who used wooden bats in little league.

60* still is even easier and a better play. Ljl at using a pw regularly. Compared to the value you'd get by having a 3 iron or random hybrid in the bag it's not even close. How often do you a) even use a 3 iron b) hit it well enough to get a legit good result and c) couldn't have gotten a similar result from a hybrid or 4 iron. The answer is maybe once a season if you play often. Having a 60 prob saves you 1-2 shots per round.

you certainly need one wedge beyond the PW, but the PW is still better for up around the green, non pros do not hit great shots with perfect spin, they have better success hitting a bump and run and the PW is perfect for that

from 30-70 yards it doesn't really matter which other wedge you have, you're going to have to tailor your swing to distance either way and any of them have enough loft to stop the ball

I used to carry pw, 52 and 56, but i've dropped the 56 for a 60 and i'm loving it. it works for me because i've got 0 bounce on the 52 and manipulate it for all sorts of shots i used to hit with my 56. use my 52 from 50-115 yards and the 60 (or a bump and run) on anything inside of that.

Funny how much has changed in 10 years. It’s nearly impossible to find a retail lob wedge with low bounce and low loft now.

I have literally hit a 60 degree backwards trying to hit a megaflop on an uphill slope.
