Han is indicating his willingness to look for Luke even if it were to mean his own death; acknowledging that, if he died, he would go to Hell, seems like an uncharacteristic self-deprecating remark by Han, but Han relishes and likes to play up his bad-guy side (although he really has a heart of gold). The only place for bad-guys like Han (really, for bad-guys like what Han wants you to think he is) when they die would be Hell. He also accuses the Echo Base Office of going to Hell when he dies to acknowledge that, when someone is about to embark on a near-suicidal mission, it is extremely inappropriate to say to such person that they are assured of failure. Further, Han also blames the Echo Base Office for not noticing, and investigating why, Luke had not checked in earlier. Had he done so, Han (and others) could have sent out a search party well before the shield doors needed to be closed for the night. Finally, Han is showing his frustration towards the Echo Base Officer that the snowspeeders were not yet working - they're SNOWspeeders for Christ's sake; why the fuck can't they adapt to the cold? You know what else is fucking cold? SPACE! And yet, Han had never heard of a space ship that could not adapt to the fucking cold. The rebel alliance was filled with fucking incompetent farm boys - think Luke, but without the god-like powers of the force or his charming good looks and boyish grin. So, it makes sense that Han would both (a) tell the Echo Base Office to go to Hell and (b) acknowledge his willingness to sacrifice himself to find Luke.

in that case, let me answer differently:
============
"A callous exterior isn't an uncommon way of protecting ideals, Captain; it hides the idealists from the derision of fools and cowards. But it also immobilizes them, so that, in trying to preserve their ideals, they risk losing them."
What this big, bluff, amiable man had just said carried so much hit and miss, insult and compliment, that Han didn't take time to unravel it. "I'm a guy with a hot ship and places to go, Rekkon, so don't let yourself get carried away with the philosophy."
- Han Solo at Star's End
==============
Quips like "I'll see you in hell!" just come from this callous, tough guy persona that Han needed to adopt to survive as an outlaw.
There are countless examples that show Han is a complete softy, even if we constrain our analysis to the three movies. He's got a heart of gold and a strong sense of right and wrong. What Han really meant, as someone said above, is something more like "I love Luke, and I'll die for him if I have to." I have to disagree with the poster above that said Han is acknowledging that he's done bad things and will go to hell if he dies. in fact, there's not much evidence that Han has done any truly evil things in life or believes he's a truly bad person.
