Not only is the image on the shroud amazingly realistic (3D image, actual blood stains, blood shows evidence of extreme trauma, nails in the wrists rather than the hands, etc), but scientists have no explanation for how the image formed or how it possibly could have formed. Literally every piece of evidence collected, except for the C-14 testing, points toward it being authentic and beyond explanation. The only evidence that produces doubt is the C-14 testing, but it has been conclusively shown the samples tested came from a section of the cloth that was repaired many centuries later.

Brothers, it's real.

nah, crucified bros in ancient Rome produced supernaturally-imposed images on the burial sheets pretty regularly. They also were all flogged and given a crown of thorns and pierced in the side as part of the standard ritual.

Why do you need SCIENCE to corroborate matters of faith?

If you believe Jesus turned water into wine or flies in the sky like Superman, then what the fuck is C-14 testing going to prove or disprove?

I don't see why these matters need to be based on faith alone. If there's a God, he is obviously a God of logic and reason. Everything in this world is logical and consistent, allowing science to exist.

I just read the entire Wikipedia article on the shroud of Turin. Sounds like there are conflicting studies on every aspect of the shroud, including some who say the image has incorrect proportions to be a human being and some who say it looks authentic.

If it is a fake based on a human corpse, imagine how fucked up it must have been to make it.

It’s highly unlikely Jesus sported the kind of long hair shown in the shroud. That was more of a medieval European depiction. First century Jewish males didn’t have long hair. Paul, a contemporary of Christ, called long hair on men “shameful.”

...so that's all you need to throw the mountain of evidence away? Hair length?

Lol at “mountain.” Odd case the shroud looks exactly like Italian Renaissance depictions of Jesus.

Brother, read/watch one good article/video on the topic. The evidence of this being the burial shroud of Christ is absolutely overwhelming. It's truly astounding. There is literally zero explanation for how it could possibly have been forged.

In 1988, radiocarbon dating by three different laboratories established that the shroud's linen material was produced between the years 1260 and 1390 (to a 95% confidence level).[6][4]: 71–72  Defenders of the authenticity of the shroud have questioned those results, usually on the basis that the samples tested might have been contaminated or taken from medieval repairs to the original fabric. All of these fringe hypotheses have been scientifically refuted by carbon-dating experts and others based on evidence from the shroud itself,[7] including the medieval repair hypothesis,[8][9][10] the bio-contamination hypothesis[11] and the carbon monoxide hypothesis.[12][13]

Woah, woah, woah, but we don't know the exact details of how the forgery was made, therefore it's twice as old and authentic.

Even if it is older than we think, there's no chain of custody that shows it has anything to do with Jesus. wtf this thread is weird flame.

It's a great piece of artwork intended to exploit the medieval market for relics.

It's a type of early photograph based on a statue body and a separate statue head that were "photographed" onto an old-appearing cloth by the use of silver nitrate and a darkened chamber with a peephole of light allowed in.

It was really ingenious.
