Incubus - Calabasas High School class of 94/95
Hoobustank - Agoura High School class of 96/97
Of interest, Robbie Borden, drummer for Lincoln Park, was Calabasas HS class of 98, so when he was a young guy he was seeing Incubus and Hoobustank at parties and clubs (when he wasn't kicking ass playing Calabasas high school football).
Also - Audiovent, younger brothers of Incubus, were Calabasas High school class of 96/97

Incubus - preferred band of chill, fratty hipsters who are a mix of pretty much everything
Hoobastank - obnoxious trash band preferred by puca she'll wearing faggots driving Mitsubishi eclipses

These guys all knew each other when they were teenagers, most of the incubus guys went to Calabasas high school and most of the Hoobastank guys went to Agora HS, with the two basically being a few miles from each other. When the bands were both playing parties and small clubs they frequently played together and I'm pretty sure they toured together a lot when they were younger.
Either way there's a whole bunch of bands that came out of that area of Los Angeles and Ventura County and those two just happen to be the best

Keep in mind, Hoobustank and Incubus original lineup both formed when the members were 15-16 and that was 1990ish, so back then things like that happened. I don't know if things like that happen anymore, but for these two bands it really was just like the movies, they were HS buddies who had some talent and decided to try to make it big, and then they succeeded. It didn't hurt that they were started playing in the West Valley, and surrounded by music industry people, and all of these guys were solid UMC.
EDIT: In my infinite knowledge and wisdom, I may have had a heart to heart with a member of one of these bands about how foolish it was for him to not go to college to try to make it big as a rock star. You see, I was going to college and majoring in business! A few years back, he reminded me of that conversation, all I could do is smile and say that I was right, he could have been a shitlaw lawyer had he listened to me.

I was better friends with their brothers in Audiovent, and I talk to two of those guys all the time, maybe once a week on text and a couple times a year in person (on of the guys is planning to bring his family out to have a boat weekend with his boys this summer).
I haven't spoken to any of the Incubus guys in a while, usually when the toured through town I would try to meet up after the show and get some beers, it's probably been a year or two since since we've spoken.
